The following list not only hurt the characters in the story, but also left the viewers in shock and sometimes anger.
#5) REINER AND BERTHOLDT BETRAY THE SCOUTS (ATTACK ON TITAN)
We got attached to the characters in Attack on Titan as they overcame every obstacle thrown at them. We watched them struggle to survive together and mourn for their fallen comrades. So it came as a shocking turn of confusion and chaos when Reiner and Bertholdt revealed themselves to be the Armored and Colossal Titans. They are the reason Eren and others lost everything and began this journey of tragedy.
#4) GRIFFITH SACRICES THE BAND OF THE HAWK (BERSERK)
The mercenary group, Band of Hawk, was led by Griffith, a fearless man who ended the Hundred-Year War and brought peace to the war-torn land of Midland. However, Griffith betrayed everyone by sacrificing them for his God Hand ambitions. I was hurt as this man who embodied justice threw all that away for his own selfish reasons. He hurt those who loved him and respected him the most.
#3) AIZEN BETRAYS THE SOUL SOCIETY (BLEACH)
Aizen is considered a notorious villain in Bleach, but he was first the captain of the 5th Division and presented himself as a mild-mannered gentleman. He was loved by his subordinates, especially by his lieutenant Momo, who was hurt the most by Aizen’s betrayal since he stabbed her in the chest and fled the Soul Society.
#2) SAILOR NEPTUNE AND SAILOR URANUS BETRAY SAILOR MOON
Things took a radical turn when Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus left the Scouts and joined Sailor Galaxia in her pursuit for stealing Star Seeds to defeat Usagi. At the time, Sailor Moon had no idea that it was just an elaborate strategy for Neptune and Uranus to steal Galaxia’s Star Seeds, but their scheme caused the deaths of several Senshi.
#1) RACHEL BETRAYS BAM (TOWER OF GOD)
This was a series that I followed religiously before it became an anime. Bam had entered a mystical tower in search of his dear friend Rachel. As we learned more about the tower, Bam, and his comrades, we came to love him. We watched him desperately search for his beloved friend, even if it meant putting his life on the line. So, when Rachel betrayed Bam for her own self-centred reasons, we are left with nothing but hurt, I was so angry that I threw my phone. I could not understand how or why she did what she did. This betrayal hurt on a different level.
